Monitoring of Illegal Iron Ore at Goa Ports, INDIA

October 11th 2011 20:12
illegal mining in Goa, monitoring of illegal iron ore at ports, goa exports of iron ore

The MPT ( Murmagao Port Trust ) at Vasco, Goa has made it clear that being a autonomous body, the port trust cannot act as regulator nor can act as enforcer of its own in respect to the exports or imports without statutory sanctions from the government to act as a agent on their behalf.

This statement came when the CM of Goa pushed the allegation of the MPT, Goa that they are not doing enough to control the illegal iron ore being exported.

The MPT also informed that it’s the responsibility of Department of Mines to monitor the cargo and check whether they are coming for legal operative mines or the ore is illegal and certify them. If detected illegal, it’s the responsibility of the Department of Mines to inform the customs so that the ore should not be cleared for exports.
