in the name of God.

It all started with a metaphor: don’t eat the fruit of the tree of knowledge...
Well, we all know the story from there. Adam and Eve didn’t obey and since then we all have been living in sins... We are the sinners!
The three main monotheist religions, Christianity, Judaism and Muslim share the same story, we, humans, were forbid to approach the tree of knowledge, we were ordered to choose faith, ignorance over knowledge but we disobeyed...
In other words we could say that we choose knowledge, towards submission. Since then we live in hell, supposedly, longing for the beyond.
An obsession for death is also very present and hope for a better afterlife if we have well behaved under God’s rules is also noticed there.
In the name of God, wars, tortures, colonialism, genocides, inquisitions, you name it, took place over centuries without anyone blinking an eye about it as it was perpetrated in the name of God... even today’s global terrorism is another new form of modern saint war.
The three religions are brainwashing us with guilt, fears, shame and hatred of the non-Christians, or non-Muslims or non-Judaic depends which side you are from.
I grew up in a non-religious catholic background family. My mother suffered from a religiously obsessed mother and my dad had no faith in God what’s so ever.
They decided to bring me up in an atheist environment and believed I should make my own decisions when I am old enough to do so. I thank them for that as indeed it gave me the opportunity to search for my own beliefs system and decide what was right for me.
Today, I realise that it would have been maybe a nice experience but regarding my vision of the world, god and faith, a pretty little dress not worn is a little price to pay in comparison to have the choice of free thinking.
I had a few years of doubt, and faith, but along the way I have made up my mind, to respect everyone’s beliefs and to be respected for my non-beliefs.
I have maybe more questions than believers do, after all they aim for the eternal life in heaven (or not, depends how good they were on earth...) somehow it seems more simple, more peaceful.
So far, I don’t know if there is an afterlife, it does haunt me sometimes when I face reality and realise that before my present life I was nothing and that I might return to this nothing state, it is frightening to think of it. So I try to concentrate on the here and now, isn’t it all we have really? This life? The present time?
What is the real reason behind religions... is it the fear of death? If you look at it, the basement, the construction of religion is an obsessive desire for eternity, immortality. Let’s go through this life quickly as heaven is coming next...
Why are we so inclined to religions? Why do we need to believe in something bigger, better, purer? Why would the afterlife be some much better than the present one?
It is possible to understand that yes there are moments in life, dramatic events such as death of a beloved one, accidents, break-ups, loss of homes or work, when we do need to find the strength somewhere to help us to go through those particularly difficult times. When we feel weakened, in pain and alone, yes the purpose of faith becomes more relevant. To believe that there is someone, somewhere there for us, listening and loving us when we need it the most is a beautiful thing to believe in. But tell me why this god who can be so helpful and loving wears also this frightening reputation? Why do we have to fear it? Why do we have to feel guilt and shame towards it? And why so much hate? ...

Im still trying to get over my catholic brainwashing - baptised reconciled communed and confirmed....And I could never equate the love and the hate and the fear we were supposed to feel for God. If sex creates new life, and procreation is a commandment, why is desire a sin? Damn, those twisted webs seem to mess up EVERYONES minds!
Id rather believe in cause and effect, the universe working to a balanced pattern. Maybe someones in control, maybe not, but it makes more sense than constantly being terrified of hell!
