Anxiety disorders.
The first thing about any mental disorders is to define the symptoms.
Then the causes, the “aetiology”, and where it comes from and finally to find the right treatments for each case.
Anxiety is a normal and natural response to the environment.
Humans have it as much as animals.
For example the rabbit in the wild lives on a constant moderate level of anxiety, it is a survival behavior.
It becomes a disorder when a person affected by it cannot have a normal life.
The reasons for developing anxiety disorders are not very clear yet.
Some people do develop it because they might be born with a different level of tolerance than others, called constitutional vulnerability.
It could also come from childhood history, by that it is meant a dysfunctional background, growing up in a threatening environment as a child, with critical parent (mostly the father).
The personality development might be an answer too, and how the person has difficulty to adapt itself to life and the world in general.
Finally, current life stress can bring big issues.
Anxiety is a high level of fear that can happen at any time, anywhere, and translate itself by a complete sense of being out of control. The symptoms are mostly heart palpitations, sweaty hands, weak legs, and disorientation.
The anticipation of anxiety is called “the fear of fear” which is a vicious circle, as the person by fearing it creates it.
This “fear to fear” anticipation can lead to avoidance and agoraphobia.
The treatments are first medications, like valium and Librium to take with care as it might lead to dependence.
The intake of medications by itself only brings a sense of calmness, it is therefore recommended to follow a psychotherapy at the same time.
It is a very disturbing illness but lots of positive results have been seen and in general people do get better.
Again, lots of efforts, willingness and patience will pay at the end.
