“The God Delusion”, Richard Dawkins.

February 16th 2009 04:46
“The God Delusion”, Richard Dawkins.

“The God of the Old Testament is arguably the most unpleasant character in all fiction: jealous and proud of it; petty, unjust, unforgiving control-freak; a vindictive bloodthirsty ethnic cleanser; a misogynistic, homophobic, racist, infanticidal, genocidal, filicidal, pestilential, megalomaniacal, sadomasochistic, capriciously malevolent bully

“The Atheist Manifesto”. Michel Onfray. A book to read.

French philosopher Michel Onfray has written here a very interesting thinking about the three monotheist religions, Christianity, Judaism and Islam, denouncing their extremely violent past and present history (September 11th) and invites us to think outside their judgemental, narrow minded, and guilt orientated laws

The love life of today, when it ends and why?
Today, one in three marriages ends up in a divorce.
It is not a very glorious statistic and it kind of gives us cold feet in terms of making the big step

National Australian identity, what are we?
Australia as the “child of Mother Britain” has a lot on its plate when it comes to define its national identity. It has certainly its roots in the Anglo-Celtic origins but since then many things have evolved and the cultural identities of Aborigines, Torres Strait and Pacific Islanders, Chinese, Thai, Indian, German, French and many more should be taken into account. In regards to Aboriginal heritage we see Aboriginal motifs everywhere, on Qantas planes, tourism ads, T-shirts and teacups. During the Sydney Olympics games aboriginal’s heritage was predominant throughout the whole event and seen as the primary national symbol by people overseas. Yet, it is only since 1967 that aboriginal people were accorded “basic citizenship rights”, prior to this they were not even counted as inhabitants... they are basically the true Australians; they have been there since ever and nowhere else... However, they make up only 2% of the Australian population... and as the rest of Australian people do not necessarily share their mystical connection with the land, Aboriginal symbols are not enough to define Australia.
Together, we are a multitude of different identities defining ourselves in many different ways such as cultural, ethnic, religious, class-oriented or ideological. With so much diversity how can we create our national identity without excluding anyone? What does it mean to be Australian? What can we use to create a national identity that unifies all of us

Boycott or not Boycott that is the question! What people think!
On the 24th of April, Australia has the pleasure and pride to welcome the Olympic flame in Canberra. After the explosive events occurring in Paris, London and the massive security that needs to be set up now in the countries where the torch will be, what can we expect here at home?
It isn’t new to see political issues rising at the Olympics Games. The old tradition from the ancient Greece where the first game started in Olympia, the city of Gods around 770BC has a long history of controversial and political outbursts. Already in around 400AC the games were forbidden as Christianity imposed itself in the area. It’s only much later in 1859 that the games reappeared... near Athens. French aristocrat, Pierre de Coubertin at the initiative of the IOC was looking for “a way to bring nations closer together, and to have the youth of the world compete in sports, rather than fight in war”. Despite Coubertin ideals of peace and togetherness 3 games were cancelled because of war, WW1 and WW2

I remember Super Mario Bros.

March 15th 2008 09:28
I have never been a big fan of video games, as I always preferred outdoors activities, but I have to admit that one game grabbed my full attention to which I always stayed completely faithful, a real facionista, it is Super Mario Bros!
It was created by Nintendo in the year 1985 and had straight away a worldwide success due to a completely new concept featuring smooth-scrolling levels but most of all a real story behind it. The purposes were not only to fight and win, but a whole script was written, characters had a complex human like history, a mission was giving, where the player was the hero. While taking the game console in your hands you would become Mario or Luigi his brother, if in two-player mode.
If you remember, in each game, Mario must conquer eight worlds in order the save the Princess Peach in the Mushroom kingdom from the evil Bowser, a big and ugly turtle, king of the Koopas, also turtles. As you all know Mario receives the “famous” kiss from the princess each time he “finally” saves her, after thousand attempts which depend on good “u” are! We don’t have much information on the true nature of their relationship, but it seems quite affectionate
